The Penguin Atlas of Women in the World I loved this book because it taught me SO much that I didn t know I have been very into the idea of gender equality my whole life, but I never knew how bad it was in some places This encouraged me to stand up for women s rights even Questo atlante ricco di dati ci aiuta ad aprire finalmente gli occhi e ci permette di abbracciare con un unico sguardo tutto il mondo Solo cos si pu capire in modo inequivocabile qual la vera situazione delle donne, quali progressi sono stati fatti e quali sono le distanze ancora da colmare Con un meticoloso lavoro di ricerca e analisi, Joni Seager, geografa e docente di Global Studies alla Bentley University, racconta il mondo femminile in tutti i suoi aspetti lavoro, salute, educazione, disuguaglianze, maternit , sessualit , contraccezione, aborto, alfabetizzazione, ricchezza, povert , potere, diritti, femminismo Infografiche colorate, cartine e schede sono la chiave per entrare in universo in cui, ancora oggi, le donne devono chiedere permesso a un uomo per uscire di casa, o sono costrette a interrompere gli studi per mancanza di politiche che le tutelino, in cui subiscono le violenze, spesso da parte del partner, o in cui non possono praticare alcuni sport perch a loro vietati I.loved.this.book The data was presented beautifully and it s nice to see data just on women s issues I feel like I have a better understanding of things that affect gender equity worldwide I especially enjoyed the data showing gender equity s connection to the HIV epidemic in Africa it validated feelings I had about the subpar training on this issue I received as a Peace Corps volunteer. The information supplied along with the maps are remarkable The reader will instantly be able to see how women rate globally on issues that confront all females The topics reach the gamut health, domestic violence, work, contraception, families, birthrights, body politics, higher education, poverty, and women in government, feminist organizing, and manyEven though the data is a tad dated the alarming disproportionate statistics between men and women rich and poor and educated and no The information supplied along with the maps are remarkable The reader will instantly be able to see how women rate globally on issues that confront all females The topics reach the gamut health, domestic violence, work, contraception, families, birthrights, body politics, higher education, poverty, and women in government, feminist organizing, and manyEven though the data is a tad dated the alarming disproportionate statistics between men and women rich and poor and educated and non educated should wake you up and have you shouting for revolution This book was absolutely phenomenal, such a good follow up from its predecessor I loved the fact that new sections were added because that tells me that Joni Seager listens to her critics I personally thought this book was absolutely flawless, a real eye opener, 5 deserved stars One kickass factual book for feminists. There are so many thing going on w this book it makes you want to scream Literally scream I was very moved by all the different components of this book how the stats are laid out You can t help but be mortified by the things that happen all over the globe that most people don t even think twice about It s simply horrifying to see some of these disparities how certain regions of the world are worse than others It really makes you wonder how women even have a chance really, hurdle after There are so many thing going on w this book it makes you want to scream Literally scream I was very moved by simply horrifying to see some of these disparities how certain regions of the world are worse than others It really makes you wonder how women even have a chance really, hurdle after hurdle, brick wall after brick wall But as many have, women persevere the best way they can It is awful to read about the atrocities that happen how gov t sit idly by like if it s normal to let these things happen Certain developed countries aren t much better in some of these topics it makes your skin crawl Yes, I am looking at you USA, get w the program already cause you re lagging behind The illustrations in this book are fantastic, really a great way to be able to put the numbers in a way that can easily speak to the reader I would say the one issue is they really need to use the color pallette a bit better as dark on dark or light on light makes it harder to see these things since it gets washed out If you re going to do something where you have a gradient for a chart make itpronounced since the dark green really dark green aren t really discernable then trying to figure out what countries do whatconfusing. This book should be part of the curriculum in every school so everyone can understand the importance of what all these women s issues are doing to the world when they don t get taken seriously Tearing down women in all aspects of their lives from the rural farm to the corporate office is horrible All the issues that women face are everyone s problem should really be addressed globally It s sickening that men are the ones behind most of these problems continue to do nothing so the vicious cycle repeats itself decade after decade It needs to stop Go get this book for someone you know so they can be enlightened if you re an educator, make it part of class I enjoyed this it was incredibly interesting to look at the huge number of areas where men and women differ, but I felt that a lot was missing due to it being solidly about statistics Some parts were explained which was useful, but overall I felt it was lacking It could have done with maybe covering less and explaining each section , or being a longer book and having sections of explanation for each statistic.I also felt that if you are going to do a statistics based book, the countries I enjoyed this it was incredibly interesting to look at the huge number of areas where men and women differ, but I felt that a regularly found myself wondering how other countries which were spoken about previously fared on the current subject I know you can t gather the data for everything and there are always going to be blanks, but it felt strange to not even acknowledge the differences The Women s Atlas by Joni Seager is a collection of charts and maps depicting statistics about women from health to government involvement, work to education and so much..It was so fascinating to learnabout women around the world It was obvious to see where improvements have been made and where we need to seeThe graphics were really cool and easy to readI found it really interesting how many countries the West tends to view as backwards are actually further ahead in man The Women s Atlas by Joni Seager is a collection of actually further ahead in many areas concerning women then we in the West are I know personally, I found it absolutely ridiculous that Canada has no national legislation on making sure that a percentage of our government is filled by women but several countries most would consider behind have actual legislation There are some interesting facts in here, and I think the book does a great job at showing the different realities and facts for women around the world, but it is definitely not complete, nor does it offer anythingthan that Also, numbers are not always everything, and while that is of course something that is difficult to cover in a book like this, the numbers do not tell the full story so the full reality facts thingy is then once again up in the air Nice for those who are interested There are some interesting facts in here, and I think the book does a great job at showing the different realities and facts for women around the world, but it is definitely not complete, is project doomed to fail This book explores the differences between women and men throughout the entire world It investigates sections over Health, Property, Education and many other topics Not only do they compare and contrast women and men, they are compare socioeconomic status I thought it was a very interesting look into things I had not thought about before, such as dowry deaths I would certainly be excited to look at a revised edition in a few years to see if any of the statistics had changed
